It’s that time again — the time real estate agents around the country anxiously await all summer and winter long: the spring buying season.
However, as we near the end of March, I’m seeing a growing trend among prospective buyers to hold off on searching for homes until the fall. Many buyers say they want to wait until the spring season is over in order to secure the best deals from nervous sellers whose properties haven’t yet sold. This is an unwise strategy for two reasons: First, the improving economy may cause sellers to raise prices in the fall; and, second, because the market is so hot now, available inventory is quickly evaporating and a buyer’s dream home may no longer be on the market when the spring season ends.
So, what do I recommend for a buyer? The answer is simple: buy.
I know buying a home isn’t easy. I also know that purchasing a home is more than just an investment; it’s a long-term commitment that requires lots of money, thought, time and energy. Still, the perfect time to buy isn’t “later.” One of the biggest points that buyers often miss is that there is no perfect time. If a property looks right, feels right and priced right, then the right time is now.
And, buyers who are still hesitating should remember this: Good things come to those who wait, but great things come to those who don’t.
