As the start of a new school year approaches, Chicago-based Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices KoenigRubloff Realty Group is helping children in need prepare for a success. The brokerage’s Michigan Avenue office recently filled 475 backpacks with school essentials for the children at The Dvorak School of Excellence, a Chicago Public School located in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago.
The initiative began 14 years ago when KoenigRubloff Realty Group Broker Anne Rodia filled about five backpacks and dropped them off at a school in late-August, just as the year was beginning for students. Soon, the program grew and today nearly 500 backpacks are stuffed with essentials like notebooks, pens, pencils, highlighters and more. In addition to these backpacks, 20 classrooms at The Dvorak School of Excellence will receive a donation of much-needed items like hand sanitizer, paper towels, healthy sealed snacks, air fresheners, first aid kits and personal hygiene products.
“This project has been something very near and dear to my heart, and I’m so excited to see how our office has embraced this activity and it has really blossomed since that first year,” said Rodia. She continued, “I’ve been working closely with the teachers and administration of the Dvorak School to focus on their most critical needs. The resources that these students currently have are so limited, and so we’re trying to help as much as we can to fill those gaps.”
